II. The Roman Republic
A. Republic- is a form of government in which citizens have the right to vote
B. Reasons why Rome was successful

III. The Roman state
A. Patricians- landowners that form ruling classess
B. Plebians- less wealthly landholders, craftspeople, merchants, and small farmers
C. 2 consuls were chose every year
D. Practors were in charge of enforcing laws
E. Roman senate important position was to select 300 patricians to serve for life
F. Centuriate assembly elected chief officals and passed laws
G. Tribunes protected the plebians
1. recieved the right to pass laws for all romans
H. the twelve tables was the first code of laws that was adopted in 450 B.C.
1. product of a simple farming society and proved inadequate for later Roman needs
